Lunch Visitors:

Families are welcome to eat with their superstar student during their designated lunchtime. We love seeing students spend time with friends, but for student safety we ask students who want to eat lunch with a friend and their school visitor to have a signed and dated note from the parent/guardian granting permission.

Example:

Child’s Name  has permission to eat lunch in the cafeteria with Friend’s Name and their parent/guardian.

    Date          Child’s Parent/Guardian Signature

*Ortega Elementary is a CEP campus!*
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) was created through the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, and allows qualifying high-poverty local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools to offer breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students without requiring families to complete an annual household meal benefits application.

What CEP means for Ortega:
  • Increased access to healthy food by providing free breakfast and lunch for all students.
  • Parents and guardians will no longer be required to submit a meal benefits application for students attending your campus.
  • An income verification form is required for students that are not directly certified, for example by receiving SNAP or TANF benefits.
  • If families that are not directly certified have children attending other Austin ISD campuses that are not participating in CEP a meal benefits application will still be required to receive free or reduced price meals at those campuses.
  • Eliminates unpaid meal fees and family worries about student meal account balances.
  • More nourished students ready to learn and grow each day!
